Guided Meditation at The Garden

Welcome the summer season by joining us on the following Mondays from 5pm-6pm as Meditation at the Garden classes continue with Stephen and Theresa Bangle!

Beginners as well as experienced meditators are welcome. Comfortable chairs will be provided but bring a meditation cushion if you prefer. Please dress comfortably. The $30 fee covers all classes listed. The Bangles will be donating all proceeds back to The Botanic Garden!

Through simple, gently-guided meditations, participants learn time-honored techniques for developing a calmer, clearer mind that will benefit both oneself and others. Tranquility meditation helps to relax and settle the mind in a state of mental contentment and peace. By placing the mind on the object of meditation or resting the mind in a state of non distraction, one develops one-pointed concentration and gradually quiets inner agitation and afflictive emotions. If the mind is allowed to relax, like waves free of wind, it naturally calms down. With a more stable, relaxed mind one then engages in insight meditation to develop positive mental qualities of kindness, compassion and wisdom, which bring more happiness into our lives and the lives of others.

About our hosts, Stephen and Theresa Bangle: Steve and Theresa have studied and practiced meditation with many accomplished meditation masters including His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Having observed firsthand their teachers’ wisdom and kindness over many decades, and having seen the result of the practice in those they have taught over the past 16 years, they gratefully share these teachings. The purpose of meditation is to attain happiness. From the point of view of meditation, happiness and suffering do not fundamentally depend on external circumstances, but on the mind itself. Only training the mind allows us to eliminate suffering and establish genuine and lasting happiness. We all have a mind and learning techniques to create more happiness and peace in our lives can be of great benefit, regardless of one’s religious affiliation.
